Worthing Thunder are more than ready for Saturday’s vital NBL Division 1 encounter against Reading Rockets with the players benefitting from the extra week off.

Thunder lost their unbeaten home record in the league, two weeks ago at the hands of the table-topping Solent Kestrels. They were supposed to face London Lituanica last weekend but they pulled out before the campaign began.

That gave Thunder enough time to prepare for Reading, who traditionally are one of the most organised teams in the league.

“The focus this week has been on doing the little things that are going to add up to success against Reading,” said Tom Ward. “I think we definitely benefited from a week off, everyone is hungry for a big win this weekend against our rivals.”

The two teams have met twice this season, once in the league and even earlier on in the National Trophy with Reading coming out on top in both games, winning 80-61 at the Worthing Leisure Centre in September and 92-83 in the league.

“We've dropped two important games so we've had to refocus, really take stock of what we're trying to achieve,” said Coach D. “I believe it's time for us now to get back to team basketball and focus on closing out the regular season.”

Like the game, two weeks ago against Solent, the club are expecting a big crowd this weekend against Reading. The game tips-off at 7:30 pm on Saturday at the Worthing Leisure Centre.
