Thunder ready for vital double-header weekend Worthing Thunder heads into this weekend’s double-header against Derby Trailblazers and Loughborough Student Riders aiming to secure home court for the NBL Division 1 playoffs. Thunder dropped out of the top four last week, with an overtime loss on the road to Bradford Dragons. It was their seventh loss of the season and Coach D says that his side cannot afford any more slip-ups in the final few weeks of the campaign. “It's absolutely imperative that we win out for the rest of the season if we want to have home court advance in the playoffs,” Coach D said. “We have to do a better job in keeping focused in the second half of the game.” Coach D admitted that his side needs to tighten up defensively ahead of this weekend’s double-header where they host the Trailblazers, who currently ranks second from bottom in the NBL Division 1 followed by a road trip to Loughborough University to take on the Student Riders, who are chasing for the title along with Solent Kestrels. Thunder have beaten both sides in the league this season. Easing their way to a 92-81 win in Derby followed a week later with a thrilling 82-80 victory against the Student Riders at the Worthing Leisure Centre. Coach D though doesn’t want any lapses, defensively ahead of the two crucial clashes. “Our defence hasn't been great this season, we've had so many lapses on that side of the ball,” said Coach D. “As a unit, we have to stick to our principles and be unified. That's the only chance to win, at any level, secure home court, win the rest of games, win the playoffs. We have to play together on the defensive end of the floor.” Thunder tip-off their weekend against Derby at the Worthing Leisure Centre on Saturday night at 7:30 pm, with the trip to Loughborough on Sunday beginning at 2 pm.
